BARELA SCULPTURE
EST. 1994
Chris Barela is a sculptor who initially focused on marine life due to his love for fishing and experiences from his pro surfing tour. His early work revolved around creating sculptures of gamefish. He had a significant breakthrough when he showcased his line of gamefish sculptures at the Fred Hall Fishing and Tackle Show. It was at this event that he became aware of the importance of catch and release and conservation efforts to maintain healthy oceans and fish populations.
Barela's sculptures became a meaningful alternative to traditional fish mounts, and he continued to be involved in the gamefish industry. He actively promoted catch and release and collaborated with organizations like the IGFA (International Game Fish Association) and The Billfish Foundation. Through his work, he contributed sculptures to help raise funds for these conservation efforts.
While marine life remains his specialty, Chris Barela has also explored other subjects as a sculptor. He has created memorial sculptures of people, landmarks, and even ventured into live action scenes, like the "Tales of the Gladiator" sculpture, which was commissioned by Wayne Bisbee and the Zane Grey family. His versatility as a sculptor is evident in his willingness to accept commissioned projects, as he has a passion for creating art.
